Basic ScrapX Operations

Combined View with Captions

1. To change views use the View Selector buttons or select a view from the View menu in the Menu bar.

2. To resize a window drag the Resize handle. In the Combined and Item views this will resize the Item Window; in the Thumbnail view it will change the thumbnail size.

3. To move between items in a scrapbook, in the Item or Combined views use the slider or the arrow buttons in the Item Selector. In the Thumbnail or Combined views use the scroll bar. In any of these views use the left (or up) and right (or down) arrow keys on the keyboard. (Additional controls are used in Slideshows.)

4. To move a copy of the current item—the item displayed in the Item view and highlighted in the Thumbnail view—to an application or the desktop:

5. To import a Classic Mac OS scrapbook, including one created with ScrapIt, use the File > Import Classic Scrapbook command. You also can initiate import with the File > Open command or by dragging a scrapbook onto the ScrapX icon in the Dock.

6. To export an item to a file, select Export... under the Item menu. Or option-drag the item to the desktop. The format of the file created will depend on the type currently selected. In the case of types derived from promised files when content was dragged from Safari or other supported web browser to ScrapX, the file will have the same name as if the content had been dragged from the browser to the desktop.

7. To add an item to a scrapbook, reverse the processes in Step 4:

8. To duplicate an item, use the Edit > Duplicate Item command. To delete one use the Edit > Clear command.

9. To undo a change select the Edit > Undo command. Most changes to item content can be undone.

10. To edit the Memo field click in the Memo field or press the tab key. Use the arrow keys to move up, down, left or right. When you are finished press "return" or click in the Item Window. Moving to a new item also will close disable Memo editing.

11. To select how an item is displayed in the Combined or Item views when it has more than one supported type, click on a type in the type list. (In the Thumbnail view the item's Primary type always is displayed.)

Multiple Types Example
The item in this example has three supported types: RTFD, RTF, and text. By default, it is displayed in the Primary type, RTFD. If "RTF" is clicked on in the type list you see formatted text. And, when you click on "text" you see plain text.

12. If an item has more than one supported type or has unsupported types, you can use the "strip" types using commands in the Item menu of the Menu bar. New commands allow stripping duplicate types from an individual item or an entire scrapbook.

13. Zoom images using the controls in the image tool strip. Use the scroll bar in the Item Window to view multi-screen text items. View multi-screen PDFs and aGIFs using the controls at the bottom of the Item Window.

14. To play a movie or sound use the control bar in the Item Window. For an item of type: sound resource or aGIF, click the Play button.

15. To change the position of an item in a scrapbook, in the Thumbnails Window of the Thumbnail or Combined view select the item you want to move and drag it to a new location. You can move an item anywhere in the scrapbook, including the first or last position.

16. To open the URL for an item with a URL type, click on the Open URL tool (the globe icon) in the tool strip.

17. Use the tools in the text tool bar and Menu bar to select a portion of text, edit text, add a text type, or create a text item. For complete information see Text Operations.

18. To present the content of a scrapbook in a slideshow format click on the Slideshow button in the Combined or Item views, or select View > Play Slideshow. For complete information see Slideshows.

19. To search, sort, or randomize the scrapbook, select the appropriate command under the Scrapbook menu. Criteria for searching and sorting can be based on the content of any of the Item Information fields or on the content for text items. For complete information, see Search & Sort.
