ScrapX Commands

The ScrapX 1.3 Menu bar has the following headers and commands:

ScrapX: There are three choices unique to ScrapX:

Register…: opens the Registration panel so you can enter a Registration Key. See the Read Me document for details.

Preferences…: opens the ScrapX user Preferences panels.

Set Primary SB: selects the currently active scrapbook as the Primary scrapbook that can be opened via the File > Open Primary SB command, and—if the "When Launching ScrapX Open" user Preference is set to "Primary Scrapbook"—that will be opened when ScrapX is opened or made active when no scrapbook is open.

File: Commands available are: New, Open..., Open Primary SB, Open Recent, Import Classic SB..., Close, Save, Save As..., and Revert.

Open: In addition to the normal function of selecting a ScrapX scrapbook to open, this command can be used to initiate the import of a classic or ScrapIt scrapbook.

Open Primary: opens the Primary scrapbook that was selected using the ScrapX > Set Primary SB command.

Import Classic SB...: allows opening scrapbooks made with the classic scrapbook applications and classic versions of ScrapIt. Use the File > Save or File > Save As... command to save the imported scrapbook in the ScrapX format.

Save and Save As...: in ScrapX changes to a scrapbook must be saved; they are not automatically saved like in the classic scrapbook. However, a user Preference allows saving to occur automatically when a scrapbook is closed.

Edit: Commands available are: Undo, Redo, Cut, Copy, Paste, Append/Paste Special, Clear, Duplicate Item, Select All, and Create Text Item.

Undo: will undo most changes to items, and can be selected multiple times. (Many changes that affect a scrapbook rather than an item cannot be undone.) Redo reverses one or more Undo commands.

Select All: will select the entire contents of an item. This command is available only when text editing is enabled.

Append/Paste Special: Edit > Append is available when text editing is not enabled and pastes styled text at the end of the current item. This command becomes Edit > Paste Special when editing of a text item is enabled and pastes styled text at the cursor. In either case the font and font size are taken from the current item.

Create Text Item: creates a new item of type plain text and enables text editing.

Special Characters...: When running Panther or Tiger, the command Edit > Special Characters... opens the Character Palette.

View: Commands allow selection of the scrapbook view.

Combined: a view that combines the Item and Thumbnail views.

Item: a view that displays one item at a time in a format like the classic scrapbook.

Thumbnail: the view that displays a scrollable list of thumbnails.

Dropbox: displays a miniature ScrapX window that floats above the desktop. Content can be dropped on this window but not moved from it.

Enable/Disable Dropbox Mode: toggles Dropbox Mode on and off. When Dropbox Mode is enabled buttons in the title bar of an item can be used to switch between Dropbox view and other views.

Set Dropbox Image: selects the scrapbook item that will be used as the image in the Dropbox view. (This image is retained even if the item is moved or deleted.)

Show Slideshow Settings: opens the Slideshow Settings panel.

Play Slideshow: plays a slideshow.

Scrapbook: Commands available are About This Scrapbook, Search, Show Found, Show Omitted, Show All, Sort, Keep Sorted, Randomize Order..., Check All Items, Uncheck All Items, and Toggle All Checkboxes.

About This Scrapbook: opens a panel with information about the current scrapbook.

Search: opens the search panel. The current scrapbook can be searched using up five criteria (two without a Registration Key). Results can be viewed in the current scrapbook or in a new one.

Sort: opens the sort panel. The current scrapbook can be sorted using up to three criteria (one without a Registration Key). When "Keep Sorted" is checked, sort criteria are retained and used to order new items placed in the scrapbook or to re-order items that are modified.

Keep Sorted: when this option is checked, the sort criteria are retained and used to position new items placed in the scrapbook.

Check All Items: puts a check in the checkboxes of all items in the scrapbook. The Uncheck All Items commands removes all checks and Toggle All Checkboxes changes checkboxes from unchecked to checked or from checked to unchecked.

Initialize Display Settings: initializes display settings for all items in the scrapbook.

Strip Duplicate Types: determines how many items contain duplicate types and gives the option of stripping them. (For example, under Jaguar when an image is dragged to ScrapX from Safari duplicates of the TIFF and PICT types are placed in the new item.)

Recreate All Thumbnails: recreates all of the thumbnails in a scrapbook.

Item: Commands available are Enable Text Selection, Enable Text Editing, Add Text Type, Export..., Strip Selected Type, Strip Unsupported Types, Strip Other Types, Clear Source, Initialize Display Settings, and Recreate Thumbnail.

Enable Text Selection: allows a portion of text content to be selected and copied and pasted or drag-and-dropped.

Enable Text Editing: allows text in the types HTML, RTF, URL, and plain text to be edited or formatted.

Add Text Type: adds a plain text type to the current item when it has no text type.

Export...: creates a file with the content of the current item. The format of the file corresponds to selected type for the item. This command is disabled in the trial (unregistered) software.

Strip Selected Type: strips only the currently selected type.

Strip Unsupported Types: strips all unsupported types.

Strip Other Types: strips all types (supported and unsupported) except the selected type.

Strip Duplicate Types: strips all duplicate types (supported and unsupported) in the current item.

Initialize Display Settings: initializes the item's display settings.

Recreate Thumbnail: Recreates the thumbnail for the current item.

Text: Commands for text editing and formatting, including Show Fonts, Bold, Italic, Underline, Show Colors, Copy Style, Paste Style, Align Left, Center, Justify, and Align Right. Commands in the Text menu are available only when text editing is enabled.

Source: Which commands are available depends on how the item was created.

Show Source In Finder: If the Source field contains a filename, this command will open a Finder window with the source file selected. If the file has been moved, renamed, or deleted, the folder farthest along the source's path will be highlighted.

Open Source URL: If the Source field contains a URL, this command will open that URL in the user's default browser.

Clear Source: Clears the Source field.

Window: This shows a list of the currently open scrapbooks. However, scrapbooks being displayed in the Dropbox view do not appear.

Help: Points to support options including the ScrapX Online Forum.

Character Palette: The Characters Palette provides access to special characters and can be accessed in various ways depending on the version of Mac OS being used.
